Contribute to Skindependent
Skindependent is a bi-annual tattoo culture magazine focused on storytelling, history, and real working tattoo life. We collaborate with contributors whose work adds depth and context to the culture, not filler or trend-driven content.
We accept visual submissions from tattoo artists, collectors, photographers, and community figures whose work reflects lived experience within tattooing. All submissions are reviewed editorially and selected based on relevance, substance, and alignment with the magazine’s direction.
Visual contributions are not tied to specific conventions, locations, or photographers. All submissions must be made through this form. No third party may promise publication, placement, or cover consideration on behalf of Skindependent.
Models appear only when they support a broader editorial story. Skindependent is not a modeling magazine, and we do not include models for the sake of filling space or replicating traditional tattoo magazine formats. Submissions are open to male, female, and nonbinary contributors.
Submission does not guarantee publication. If a submission aligns with an upcoming issue or feature, we will reach out directly. Due to volume, we may not respond to every submission.
Visual & Photographic Contributions
Visual work in Skindependent exists to support stories, document culture, and reflect lived experience within tattooing. It is not about posing, promotion, or aesthetic alone.
We consider visual submissions that may include:
-
Tattoo artists in their working environment
-
Collectors whose tattoos reflect long-term commitment
-
Partners, collaborators, or community figures connected to tattoo life
-
Well-known tattoo models when the feature adds cultural or narrative value
Submissions are open to male, female, and nonbinary contributors.
About Model Submissions
Skindependent is not a modeling magazine. Models are included only when they contribute meaningfully to a broader editorial story.
This may include individuals who are deeply tattooed, widely recognized within tattoo culture, connected to artists or studios, or whose personal story adds necessary context to the work.
Submitting as a model does not imply cover consideration. Cover selection happens late in the editorial cycle and is determined solely by the editor.
Submission Process & Expectations
Skindependent prioritizes respect, transparency, and editorial clarity. All contributors, including models, are selected as part of a broader visual or narrative feature, not as standalone subjects.
What to expect:
-
Inclusion is based on context, connection to tattoo culture, and overall fit, not appearance alone
-
Submission does not imply publication or cover consideration
-
Editorial decisions are made internally and independently
Coverage standards:
Skindependent prioritizes individuals with significant, intentional tattoo coverage. Coverage expectations vary by feature and are evaluated editorially. No one outside of Skindependent’s editorial process can approve or deny suitability.
Safety and communication:
-
All communication regarding Skindependent must come directly from the magazine
-
No photographer, artist, or collaborator may promise publication or placement
-
No shoot is considered connected to Skindependent without prior editorial agreement
If at any point a contributor feels unclear, uncomfortable, or misrepresented, we encourage direct communication with Skindependent.
Our goal is to protect contributors, maintain trust, and ensure the magazine reflects tattoo culture with integrity.
